migratory birds

Migratory birds are birds that travel long distances between their breeding grounds and their wintering grounds. These birds undertake regular seasonal journeys, often covering thousands of miles, to take advantage of the availability of food, nesting sites, and favorable climate conditions.

Migratory birds come from a variety of bird families, including shorebirds, waterfowl, songbirds, and raptors. Some well-known migratory birds include the Arctic tern, which flies from its breeding grounds in the Arctic to its wintering grounds in the Antarctic and back again each year, and the monarch butterfly, which migrates from Canada and the United States to Mexico.

Migratory birds face many challenges during their long journeys, including finding food and water along their routes, avoiding predators, and navigating using cues such as the position of the sun, the stars, and the Earth's magnetic field. Many migratory bird populations are also threatened by habitat loss, climate change, hunting, and other human activities.
