What is the sound of a chicken?

The sound that a chicken makes is commonly known as "clucking". It is a short, sharp vocalization produced by the chicken to communicate with other chickens in its flock. Chickens also make other sounds such as "crowing" (in the case of roosters), "squawking" when they feel threatened or distressed, and "purring" when they are content.
